Remember a post I did in 2012, Loving My Spot (In Singapore) - Bras Basah Complex? In that post I mentioned that I was constantly being surrounded by books that got me acquainted with books at a young age. POPULAR Book Store has been part of my childhood too, having visited their Bras Basah branch so many times that I have lost count. We would go in there to enjoy "free air con" but mostly to sit on the floor and read the books. The sales assistants back then did not chase us out because we were the "Yih Mei store's kids", plus we were very well behaved and would be as quiet as a mouse reading the books, most importantly we were careful with the books, trying very hard not to damage it in any way.
POPULAR Bras Basah is the largest bookstore in Southeast Asia, it was opened in 1980 and with its opening it also symbolizes POPULAR’s successful transformation into a bilingual bookstore. This flagship store went through a revamp, from simple set up to stylish store front and it was renamed POP@Central in 2005.
Regardless the many changes it has went through, whenever I step foot into the store a wave of nostalgia swept over me and I felt the need to stay a little bit longer.

Milestones of POPULAR Card
1990 - POPULAR Card was launched to offer better value and savings to customers
2001 - POPCLUB, a half yearly membership catalogue was launched and increased to a quarterly publication from 2005 due to popular demand. It is currently one of the most effective communication tools to keep POPULAR members up to date with the latest news and promotions.
2004 - Membership application went online where customers could sign up or renew their membership on-the-go. POPULAR Connections was created for participating merchants to offer exclusive perks to POPULAR members.
2005 - POPULAR Card launched its three-year Adult and Student Card.
2006 - Customer Service Counters were set up to provide one-stop membership services which ignited a rapid growth of membership.
2009 - Relaunch of POPULAR Card with new look and all-in-one concept to offer members enhanced privileges at POPULAR, HARRIS, UrbanWrite, {prologue} and CD-RAMA.
2010 - Introduction of premiums to members who sign-up or renew their card.
2011 - Application of POPULAR Card was made available at over 900 AXS stations across Singapore.

A couple of things to take note if you want to lay your hands on the Limited Edition 25th Anniversary POPULAR card;
#1 Each member is only allowed to hold one card, hence, your current card will be void, and the membership validity for the new Limited Edition 25th Anniversary POPULAR card will be extended for 1 year after the original expiry date of the current card.
#2 For renewals, the card replacement will not be allowed to change to the new Limited Edition 25th Anniversary POPULAR card but the membership validity will extend from the date of current card expiry and they will also receive the welcome booklet.
